It all started this diwali.

Jobless me hasn't been doing anything lately other than worrying about my future and of course playing online games. But this diwali I was determined to have a good day for once. If you had visited this blog on diwali you would have seen a flash animation wishing 'Happy Diwali' . I did it on the night before diwali staying up very late. The next day I woke up really early, in fact I was the first one to get up in my house which added up to the enthusiasm as I had done something I have never done before. I expected to be woken up by the sound of atom bombs and sara vedis but there wasn't even a bijili vedi till 7 am. Though its a good sign it still did add a gloom. Next, my mom didn't make any special dishes! no vada sambahar on diwali!!!. She just said that she didn't fell like doing anything. Now, I am not really a connoisseur of home food but today was different. So just not to get frustrated I thought of playing chess. I logged on to yahoo chess and guess what it just wouldn't load. I somehow managed the day playing at freechess.org.

The next day was the worst.

Oct 21th

I wasn't exactly in a good mood when I woke up. It seemed everyone in my family felt the gloom too. So they all decided that we should go out to any of our relatives house . As usual I didn't want to go but this time they weren't ready to let me out and started pestering me to come. Frustrated I just yelled that I'll come the next time. And so they put off the plan and decided to stay home. Hardly few minutes later my aunt(atthai) called and said that my uncle(mama) suddenly fell unconscious and that he has been taken to the hospital. It was actually a heart attack and my worst fears were conformed... the attack had killed him.

Now whats the coincidence here?
1. All through the day I had this guilty feeling. If I had agreed to my parents request then we would have most probably gone to my aunts house and had we been there during this mishap there is slight chance that we could have rushed him to the hospital sooner.
2. I wasn't interested in meeting any of my relatives and this misfortune made me meet all of them within hours of expressing my displeasure.

It just doesn't end there. My mom keeps telling everyone that she had this eerie feeling that something bad is gonna happen and thats why she didn't feel like doing anything on diwali. She also told something very much similar to #1.

And heres one more.
My chittapa who went to the beach along with my mama's son to dissolve the ashes lost his cell phone when he strayed into the water. It so happens that only two days ago my mama wanted to buy a cell phone.

You are in a room with two candles and you are given the information that the candles will burn for one hour each. You have to tell me when it is 90 mins?

I asked this question to two people and they weren't able to solve it. When I told them the answer they really pissed me off but making really stupid arguments that their answers were also right.
I get really irritated when people argue illogically... I get really really mad when people cant see logic. I have put up this question to see whether people can really appreciate the beauty of this answer.

Lets see how many answers I get.

PS1: I didn't think of this puzzle all by myself. I heard this from my friend who said it was asked in a HR interview.
PS2: I don't have a problem with wrong answers... the problem is with stupid arguments saying that it is correct.

I am back with a new blog template :D . There is some good news and some bad news.

The good news-

I have embedded the BGM in a flash document and am streaming it.

I have got my own favicon :D .

The bad news-

I am currently using IE 7 beta 3 and the banner of this template is not displaying properly :(
I wanted to have an animated favicon but IE just wont recognize it :(( . As a result of this I have two favicons now, animated one for firefox and static one for IE.
Worst of all I have put up a notice dissuading people from viewing this blog in IE :(( in spite of the fact that I love IE more than any other browser.

Hmm.. so you wanna learn how to crack softwares...good

To start with it is very important that you have some knowledge about assembly language. Cracking is primarily 'reverse engineering' i.e disassembling a program and then modifying the code which will be in assembly language. You do not need much understanding of the assembly language for this tutorial but for cracking 'real' softwares you need some really good understanding.

Tool used: win32dasm89 - it is a disassembler that breaks down and translates the computer programs assembly language in to a form the user can understand (barley) enough to find what you need so you can change.

Now here is a really really simple program that I wrote in VB6 ( I can't crack others softwares and show as that would put me behind bars :( ... thats applicable to you too \:D/ ) which we are going to crack.

About my program..

In the textbox type 12345 and click submit. You will get a message "Success". If you enter any other number you will get a message "The number you have entered is incorrect".

Ok enough of raving about my cool program..close it and open win32dasm. Click "open file to disassemble" and choose wannacrackme.exe

Click the indicated button ("strn ref") . You will get the screen as shown below.

Double click "Success"
You will be taken to the part indicated by the black arrow
Now we should be looking at the code above "success". Scrolling up we find that this part of the code was referenced by an unconditional jump statement at the address 00401C41 (this and all the other addresses will be different on your machine).

Press shift+F12 and type that address here. This will take you to a some place similar to this..

Now check out the lines of code above the jmp statement you are in. The statements

and the other lines of code around it tells us that some value is compared with some other value and if both are equal then it jumps to some location and ultimately leads to the string "Success"

So instead of je (jump if equal) we are going to change it to jne(jump if not equal).

in 7407 , 74 is the opcode for the mnemonic "je" . The opcode for the mnemonic "jne" is 75.

Choose
Edit->Quick edit

Change the 74 to 75 under modify bytes and click save.

Now run pwannacrack.exe ...

Hooray! whatever number you enter other than 12345 will give "Success" !!!

PS: OMG! I was supposed to be creating the PPT for the final review on wednesday ... my teammates are going to kill me tomorrow ...shit!...

A little history..

Once upon a time there existed a geek by the name of Yuvaraj Pandian T in the kingdom of blogosphere. At the tender age of 15 he came up with a new version of the traditional 'tagging'. According to the tradi..(ok! thats enough.. cut the crap and post the scrap).

Whew! been busy for so many days now and it doesn't seem it will change in the days ahead. No time to blog, no time to watch movie, no time to watch the match , no time to even check my mail!!... .From the day the exams got over I have been visiting many companies enquiring about project and at last I it looks like I have decided something. Futhermore I have made a commitment to my friend to help him in his work (this is proving to be a big mistake...taking up most of my time..much more problems). Well this post is just to make this blog alive. I planning to somehow squeeze some time to write something so do check out in few days.

Tips to change eBay sucks to eBay rocks !

I am keeping my promise to give some tips. Nothing revolutionary but simple and hopefully effective.

The best way to make buying and selling through eBay foolproof is that eBay must handel all the transactions. eBay should have an account where the buyer can deposit the money and after the product has been delivered eBay can transfer the money to the seller. The product can be delivered through registered post thus it will conform the delivery.

Advantages

1. Its not possible for the buyer to repudiate.

2. The seller also cannot repudiate.

3. eBay can take its commission for successful deliveries and thus will get its share.

Of course its means we have to trust eBay(well we have to trust someone).

And last one ...for godsake! eBay should remove this 'final value credit' thing for items listed as 'Buy it now'.

From the time I saw the cute 512MB mp3 player in my masters hands I became obsessed with buying one. I am a lazy guy who hates going all around chennai checking out prices. So I found a comfortable alternative ..shop online. My first choice was sify as I had seen a 512MB player for less than Rs3000 a month ago. But to my horror they had removed that item and I was forced to find other alternatives. I saw ebay.in ad while googling. I became a member and was astonished to see really cheap player( for 4000 bucks I could get a 1GB mp3 player!!!). So I decided to buy from eBay.
eBay offers two ways of buying an item:
1. You can bid on an item and if you are the highest bidder when the auction closes then you can buy it.
2. You can directly buy items that are listed as 'buy it now' where you have to just pay the price quoted by the seller(no bidding).

I decided to opt for the second choice. I found two items of interest in this category.
1. 512MB mp3 player @ around Rs2200 and
2. 1GB mp3 player @ around Rs4000.

Now this was excluding shipping and handling charges. You have to commit to buy i.e. enter into a legal contract that you will buy the item to know the additional charges. So I committed to buy both the items without checking out the payment methods(ok! this was really stupid on my part).
Now the payment methods accepted were
1. Payment through online icici bank transfer
2. Demand draft
3. Cheque

I was skeptical about all these methods as in these methods we have to pay first and then the product will be delivered. I made a quick search in forums for experiences of people who had paid beforehand and the results weren't convincing either. Many had paid thousands for a product and the product didn't turn up at all!. The seller had unregistered and wasn't responding to mails. On top of all eBay flatly said it wasn't responsible for anything and wouldn't interfere. Ultimately I decided not to buy.
After a few days I got a mail from eBay saying that an unpaid item dispute has been registered against me. Again I searched their site and came to know that when you commit to buy an item you have to pay for it no matter what. I was given the option of either paying for the item or talking to the seller and come up with an agreement . I messaged the seller saying that I wanted to pay through COD(cash on delivery) and as it wasn't available I requested him to cancel the deal. I also apologized for not reading the payment options properly. This left two options for the seller...
1. He could agree with me and call of the deal or
2. The seller could disagree and request for 'final value credit'.

Both my sellers opted for the second choice and I was given an 'unpaid item strike'. I had to do an extensive research on their site to know what it meant. 'Unpaid item strike' and 'final value credit' meant that after committing to buy an item if I don't pay then I'll have to pay a fine (the fine was some % of the product's price). This is what pissed me off!. I understand that this is effective for items that are bought through bidding 'cos a person could quote an high price for an item and not pay. This may deprive the seller of potential buyers who where genuine. But why the hell use this system for 'buy it now items'. The seller has nothing to lose. I again sent a message to the seller requesting as politely as possible to agree and cancel the deal. Now this was the worst thing - he said that if he agrees and cancels the deal then eBay considers it as successful transaction and he has to pay a commission to eBay! (what the fu**! don't they know the meaning of 'cancel'). Finally I have decided to close my account at eBay 'cos eBay SUCKS and it SUCKS BIG TIME.

I am making my blog musical today.I have added a small music clip that I composed today as the background for this blog.Its just a 38 sec clip(around 350 kb) that keeps repeating five times.

Update:Unfortunately its not working in opera. The clip is in wma format so I think it will work only in IE. Some glitches can be heard when the clip is playing through the browser so for some clear playing download the clip from the link provided at the right.

Cryonics - preserving the 'dead'

I stumbled upon this word "cryonics" when I was studying from my Mike Martin for my 'Professional Ethics' (7th sem anna university) exam. I remembered seeing something like this in Discovery channel some good 4-5 years back (ya..ya I can't remember on what context this word was mentioned in Mike Martin....guess I have short term memory loss but my long term memory is still good). So I just googled and the results were fascinating.

What is cryonics ?
Cryonics is the preservation of legally dead humans or pets at very low temperature (below −200ÂºF, −130ÂºC) in the hope that future science can restore them to life, youth and health.
-whoa! looks like its right out of a science fiction movie.

I just decided without a second thought that I should be frozen after my death.

Just think ...your body frozen and suspened for years and you will be back form the dead after millions of years!
hey! if you are worried about the cost of cryopreservation then you can go for the "neuro" option - it involves ripping off your head and freezing it (not applicable for people without brains).
hmm.....'frozen severed heads' .... sounds exciting!

Why I have started blogging ?

I had never liked the idea of blogging. It was hard for the pessimist in me to accept the idea of people reading and commenting about my life. I was afraid. But day by day blogging was growing in popularity.....and then out of curiosity I started exploring the world of blogging. My friend then introduced me to this blog. It was a blog by a person who seemed married , well educated and some of the posts they .... they were .. gross (no offence meant here). Ok everyone thinks of something like that or the other but why would a person want to let others know of it ... it made no sense ... it was unlogical. I gave a second thought to my strenghts .... my strenght was in hiding my weakness... in keeping private things private. Then I thought about my weakness .... my guru always said I ought become more interactive .... it had become a habit for me to shun people and stay alone. I had also become arrogant .... "why the hell should I let others commet about my life ... am I not mature enough to know what is right and wrong?". I was not (I reasoned it out that no one can be). I needed to change. I needed to talk. How could I talk about the other side of my life and still avoid the face to face embarrassment ?. The answer was in blogging. It now made sense . To guy like me who looks for logic at everything in life it felt logical.
Well this may be quite suprising to even my best friends to see me talk like this. Its time that I let myself known to you.
